“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation”
Psalms 42:5 ESV
For quite a period of time, I’ve found myself treading in water in most aspects of my life. In many ways quite content, like an amply supplied ship, caught in becalmed waters. Day to day existence was taken care of, but things around me beginning to show signs of neglect or decay. Wistfully I would look out from the observation deck remembering the excitement of what had gone before, a time of adventure and daring, but now subtly trapped, seduced by mediocrity. Something needed to change, I need fresh wind in my sails.
We live in a small terraced Victorian house probably built for workers in the shoe industry, moving in in 1986, the house has been our shelter, a place to raise our family and has served us well. But we have been aware that there would come a day when major work would be required. Well that time is upon us, with some trepidation, we have started getting quotes to have our home completely rewired. Bracing ourselves for the chaos to come, we have started making preparations, we have hired a storage unit, and commenced packing away our belongings decluttering along the way.
As we undertook this venture, I’ve sensed in my spirit a breaking of the inertia that has held us so long, although daunted by the task ahead, the challenge has reenergised me. This seems to be mirrored in all aspects of my life. My cast down spirit is about to set sail again, I will lift my head praise the God of my salvation, and let the sails billow again driven by the Wind of the Holy Spirit.
