Shutting the Door on the World.
⠀ ⠀ “So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the Lord.”
⠀ 2 Kings 4:33 ESV
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ What causes distractions to your prayer life? When faced with a difficult situation is it better to pray alone or to pray with others? Jesus taught us that if two or three people agree in His Name, it would be done. To gain a true consensus is difficult because each of us sees through the lens of our own view point. ⠀ ⠀ If we are in the presence of people who do not believe that God will hear and respond to our prayers, maybe it is better to pray alone. Shutting out distractions allows us to focus, I remember a friend who literally had a prayer closet. When he wanted to pray without interruption, he would lock his door, unplug his phone and shut himself in his broom cupboard. When we prayed together, his prayers had a flow and an intimacy that had been developed in those times of being shut in with Jesus.
⠀ ⠀ Jesus himself found time to go up the mountain to spend time with God and pray. It is these times of intimate relationship that bring nourishment to our souls and gives us the strength to carry on. Let us make time and space to pray, shutting the door on the world, that we might be better equipped to serve Jesus and others when we reopen the door.
