Receiving Praise Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ http://bible.us/59/pro.27.2.esv I can see very little value in self praise, that does not mean that I cannot take satisfaction from a job well done, but needing to be praised shows a lack of confidence, assurance and maturity. Whether we are praised or not should not influence the manner in which we do things. I struggle with “award shows” because they seem so self congratulatory and a celebration of self centred attitudes. Cinema releases are timed so to attract the attention of the select few who choose this year’s worthy nominations. Many high street products promote that they were the product of the year, failing to emphasis the narrow restrictions in which they were nominated. If we are going to have “award shows” let them be a true celebration embracing those who would not be searching for recognition. Thousands upon thousands of people from all walks of life, deserve to be recognised, yet we will not hear their story. They don’t seek fame of glory, they don’t pat themselves on the back, they get on with the job at hand to the best of their abilities. If you are one of those people whose work seems to go unnoticed, be careful not to brush away the praise when it comes from others, accept what is genuine. It’s ok to receive praise, but let it not come from your own lips
