Confession: serious and intentional

“Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.”

‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

While turning his face to God, Daniel sought God with prayers and pleas for mercy with fasting and contrition; Daniel was serious, he was intentional. Often we heard it said that God is only a prayer away, yet when we come to pray, he seems distant. Yet I once again find that I am the one that has drifted. Like the Father scanning the horizon for the first sign of his prodigal son returning, I wonder if this imagery is more that a picture of salvation, I wonder if this could apply to my prayer life too. I’ve come to my senses, I’m returning to my Father who has everything that I need. Shamed face returning, determined to confess my sin and throw myself on His mercy. Somewhat startled I dare to look up and there He is hurtling towards me with His arms open wide.

Lord forgive me, for when I’ve neglected you, when I’ve chose to go my own way. Thank you for bring me to my senses, thank you for running towards me, thank you for your everlasting arms of grace and mercy. Amen
