“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.”
Acts 2:42-43 ESV
Awe is a most intriguing word, we often see this as reverence, but looking at the root word it seems terror is perhaps more accurate. During our worship, do we truly get a sense of the magnificence of God, Isaiah thought he was a dead man when he entered God’s presence, he was aware of his unclean lips and mortality. I am so thankful that we can enter his courts with thanksgiving in our hearts and we can enter his courts with praise. Forever thankful the veil that separated the holy of holies, was torn in two, access gained through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
When we consider that God is all powerful, He is without measure and unequaled, He holds all things in His hands and He is the maker of all things, is our heart filled with awe. Jesus Christ is risen, ascended and returning, truly this is awesome. Knowing my iniquitous heart, I am conscious of my need of a Saviour, knowing that I am forgiven and restored gives me the confidence to enter His awesome presence.
Bold I approach the Eternal Throne…..
