Fresh mercy

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV

Do you find that you get so caught up in everyday life that you miss what God wants to say to you? We have been so busy at work that at the end of the day, we feel so exhausted that we do not want to do anything but eat and relax.

Some of the people that charity that we run helps are very demanding and seeming ungrateful. It is at times like these when it helps to take a step back, breathe and remember that Jesus said “when you did it for the least of these”.

It is this stepping back and remembering God’s goodness that renews our hope. Yesterday one of the clients that we struggle to engage with, stopped me and started talking about my church involvement, today another told us that she had been given a room to stay in supported by another trust.

While we are struggling with some of the wider issues of austerity and society in the UK, and trying to develop better and more appropriate services; we need to remind ourselves who we are serving and who it is that gives us the strength to continue.

His mercies are new every morning.
