A balanced diet

Famine or feast is not sustainable, so it is with the Word of God, going without taking in his Word starves our soul, binge reading to try and compensate leaves no time for meditation and refection and rather than absorbing them, His Words drift by.

16 Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts. (Jeremiah 15:16)

Do you enjoy feeding on God’s Word? It sustains us and give us everything that we need spiritually. It is nutritionally balanced, and best consumed regularly. Sadly we have times when we fall away from reading the Bible, it takes discipline to keep on track.

Most of us have food preferences, things we like and things we detest, but we have to be careful not to be selective about what of God’s Word we consume. There are sections that we struggle with or challenge our thinking or world view but it is still God’s Word. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”

2 Timothy 3:16 ESV

I have found using a bible reading plan really useful and there are many to choose from, in fact if you follow my blog regularly you might be able to detect that I am reading the bible chronologically. However if you struggle with certain books it may be better to follow a plan that includes Old and New Testament reading, this can help you get through the tougher readings. I’ve also found that the by reading His Word it does bring me a joy that is sustainable. Our bodies need a balanced diet and so does our spirit and soul.
