When the earth gives way
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah (Psalms 46:1-3 ESV)
Everyone of us goes through times in our lives when it feels as the though the world has give way. Maybe you are going through one right now. It is reassuring to know that through this God is a very present help.
How do some people manage to keep calm, even though the storms of life rage around them? When things are shaky how firm is our foundation? What is our life built upon? Jesus taught us that the wise man built his house upon the rock. Jesus is the Rock of Ages that cannot be moved and he invites us to build our lives upon a Him.
Last week we arrived at work to find a lot of the stone work in the corner of our building had been damaged. During the night a car had lost control and had hit our building and the one next door. Our building does need repair, but it is still standing, the foundations are strong and secure. The stones are cracked, internally tiles have been smashed and cracks have appeared in the plasterwork, but it is still standing.
None of us are immune from tragedy and disaster but will you be able to withstand the storm? The wiseman built his house upon the rock, the rains came down and the floods came up but the house on the rock stood firm,. The foolish man built his house upon the sand, the rains came down and the floods came up and the house on the sand went crash.
Let’s make sure our foundation is sound
