“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11 ESV http://bible.us/59/psa.119.11.esv Squirrels store food for another time, days when supply will not be so plentiful. They always seem busy, actively pursuing that which will sustain them. It is prudent to save and store, but we also must take care to the condition of our larder, in this case our heart. Storing things in our innermost being goes beyond a remembrance or memory. Memories can be temporary, transient and sometimes even false, but God’s Word is unchanging and nourishes our souls. Several times in the New Testament, in the gospels we read of Mary, Jesus’ mother ‘treasuring these things in her heart’. Whether it was the Angels proclamation, Jesus as a boy debating with the scholars in the temple or when Jesus turned the water into wine; and I wonder when she saw her son upon the cross was it this store that she was able to draw from to feed her soul and trust that everything was going to work out well.
